Moab, Utah - Stunning Desert Colors
Moab, Utah: Red Rock Mecca
The red rocks, towering mesas, and vivid desert colors create a landscape that is both awe-inspiring and unique. From the deep reds and oranges of the sandstone cliffs to the bright blues of the sky, the colors in Moab are a feast for the eyes.
The slick red rock that surrounds Moab on every side has been calling mountain bikers from around the world since the 90s. Moab is not only for the experts, and offers trails not only on slick rock. All levels of riders love all that this desert town has to offer. You can rent bikes at, last count, 17 bike shops in town. But, the avid bring their own ride, with it's often $$$$ price tag.
Another little thing that puts Moab on the map, is it just so happens to be the gateway town to Arches National Park, one of the most unique and breathtaking landscapes in the world. Its iconic sandstone Delicate Arch graces our Utah state license plate. According to the parks service, Arches "has over 2,000 natural stone arches, hundreds of soaring pinnacles, massive rock fins, and giant balanced rocks." While you will find stunning rock arches in many places around the state, Arches is the king.
Then, head southwest a bit from town and BAM! Another ginormous national park – Canyonlands. With amazing hikes and otherworldly landscapes and ... few people. The vistas are unbelievably gorgeous, yet with so many other spectacular locations in our state, Canyonlands remains underrated. Its arches, canyons, exotic rock formations, rivers, overlooks, mesas, etc. are panoramically perfect.
Utah has a similarly rugged, yet beautiful state park right near Moab, as well – Dead Horse Point State Park. Camping here is a dream to consider in order to capture the magical sunset and sunrise. As a Dark Sky location, you won't be able to fall asleep and take your eyes off the multitude of stars you'll see!
From rock climbing and mountain biking to river rafting and kayaking, Moab offers a wide range of outdoor activities for people of all ages and abilities - the seasoned adventurer or one simply looking for a new experience. With its stunning arches, surreal landscape, and rusty desert colors, Moab, Utah attracts the hikers, bikers, photographers, campers, casual traveler and desert lovers ... and leaves them all with an unforgettable impression.
